Carolina Pattern

The Carolina Lily, Lilium michauxii, named for noted eighteenth century botanist and explorer Andre Michaux, grows throughout the Southeast from West Virginia to Florida. Peak booming season is from July to August. The Carolina Lily quilt pattern dates back to the early 1800's. Unlike the flower which is yellow to reddish orange, most Carolina quilts from this period were in popular colors of the time, red and green. In 2003, the state of North Carolina officaly made the Carolina Lily it's state flower.
